Carey Hoyt Bostian (1907-2000): Carey Hoyt Bostian obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1930 and 1933, respectively. Bostian first joined NC State as Assistant Professor of Zoology in1930 but was promoted to Professor of Genetics prior to becoming Director of Instruction in the School of Agriculture, a position he held from 1946-1953. In 1953 he was named Chancellor of NC State College but returned to teaching in 1959 at his own request. Before retiring from NC State in 1973, Bostian participated in many areas of campus life including the Faculty Senate. In 1980, the University named Bostian Hall to honor the former Professor/Administrator.
