Norval White Conner (1903-1975): Norval W. Conner graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, and an M.E. He received his M.S. in M.E. from Iowa State College. In 1937 he became Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and in 1949 he became Head of the Department of Engineering Research. From 1967 to his retirement in 1973 Conner was Assistant Administrative Dean for University Research. At two different times he also served as Acting Administrative Dean. In 1964 he served as President of the Southeastern Section of the American Society for Engineering Education. In 1967 he received a certificate of commendation from Gov. Dan K. Moore for his interest in and contributions to the industrial development of the state.
