James B. Hunt (1937-): Jim Hunt, Jr. was born in Wilson, NC on 16 May 1937, and received his B.S. in Agricultural Education and M.S. in Agricultural Economics from NCSU, also serving as Student Body President. Hunt received his J.D. from the University of North Carolina in 1964. He was elected as Lieutenant Governor under James Holshouser in 1973, serving a four year term. In 1976 he became the 70th Governor of the State of North Carolina, and he was re-elected to that post in 1980. In 1984 he lost in a bid to unseat U.S. Senator Jesse Helms and effectively retired from politics for a number of years. In 1992, he ran again successfully for the Governorship, serving until his retirement from politics in 2001. His four terms in office made him the longest serving Governor in state history and the only Governor to serve four terms. Hunt is the fourth NCSU alumnus to become governor.
James B. Hunt graduated from North Carolina State University in 1959 and Smedes York graduated in 1963.
