John Tyler Caldwell (1911-1995): John Tyler Caldwell (1911-1995) received his B.S. from Mississippi State College in 1932, master’s degrees from Duke University and Columbia and his Ph.D. in philosophy from Princeton. Caldwell served the University of Arkansas and Vanderbilt University, among other schools, before he was named Chancellor of North Carolina State University and Professor of Political Science in 1959. In 1975, Caldwell turned his attention to the Political Science Department. He taught at NC State until 1982. During his time with the University, Caldwell was the recipient of many awards and honors.
