Virginia Wade Burnside (1920-1976): Virginia Wade Burnside was employed by the NCSU Department of Entomology from 1949 to 1970. During this time, Burnside was a Research Analyst (1961-1965), Research Supervisor (1965-1969), and Librarian (1969-1970). She worked closely with Dr. Z. P. Metcalf, cataloging and indexing his General Catalogue of Homoptera of the World. Following Metcalf's death, Burnside continued to oversee publication of the catalogue. In 1970 she was awarded Outstanding Entomologist by the North Carolina Entomological Society. |
