North Carolina Museum of Art (Raleigh, N.C.): In 1952, the North Carolina State Art Society formally adopted the name North Carolina Museum of Art to replace State Art Gallery
George Bireline (1923-2002): George L. Bireline received his B.F.A. from Bradley University and his M.A.C.A. from the University of North Carolina in 1963. At NCSU, he became an Instructor in 1956 and an Assistant Professor in 1958. Mr. Bireline was appointed Associate Professor in 1964. In 1957 he was an NC Artists Annual Award winner, 1959 Purchase Awards, East Tennessee State College, and Ford Foundation, 1960 Purchase Award, South Coast Art Association, 1961, Executed mural for Mecklenburg Co. Office Bldg., Charlotte, 1962, First prize, Winston-Salem Gallery of Fine Arts, 1963, NC Museum of Art, 1964, One man show, Andre Emmerich Gallery, NYC, 1967, awarded Guggenheim Fellowship, and National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. His art works are in permanent museum collection in Washington, DC, North Carolina, and Virginia.
