Herbert Bemerton Battle: Herbert Bemerton Battle (H.B.) graduated with his Ph.D. from NCSU in 1887. He worked as Assistant Chemist from 1881-1887 as well as Director and State Chemist from 1887-1897 with the N.C. Experiment Station; as a chemist with the N.C. State Board of Health (1887-1897); was President of the Southern Chemical Co., (1887-1901); Technical. Worker and District Superintendent of the Southern Cotton Oil Co. (1902-1906), and President of Battle Lab. Corp. Battle also participated in various professional societies.
