Men's cross country won first Southern Conference Championship

Men's cross country won second Southern Conference Championship
NC State won its second consecutive Cross Country Southern Conference championship, as well as a Dual Meet championship. Runner Buz Sawyer takes first place in the meet after finishing ninth overall in the nation during a meet the previous week.

Men's cross country won ACC Team Championship
The State College Cross Country team became champions during the first year of the ACC. The team also won the ACC championship the following year in 1954.

Both the men's and women's cross country team won the ACC championship. This was first time any ACC school won both the men's and women's championships in the same year.
