1980s
Volire Tisdale-Brown played volleyball from the 1984 to 1988 seasons. In 1987, Tisdale-Brown led NC State to the first Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament title in school history, earning tournament MVP honors as well as first-team All-ACC and AVCA All-Region selections for the season. She was the first alumna from the volleyball program to be inducted into the NC State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024.

In 2012, the women's volleyball team earned a bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1987.
Women's volleyball advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012, and the Pack earned the program’s first win in the NCAA championship with a victory against Oregon State.
2020s
Head volleyball coach Luka Slabe was assistant coach for the Team USA volleyball squad in the Tokyo Olympics.
